Treaty and Tikanga Hui - Marae Based

You are here

The Hospice Treaty and Tikanga Day has been a feature on the Hospice internal education for many years.  It is now open to others seeking to widen their exposure to a Māori environment and open their perspective when working with Māori in Palliative Care.

We start with touching introductory concepts of Kaupapa and Tikanga, look at the historical context of the Treaty of Waitangi and its place in current health policy.  We will reflect upon the sector’s Treaty approach in recent years, as well as exploring how we can turn insight into action. We will explore Institutional Racism.

Our day ends with a warm reflection and acknowledgement of the special place of wairuatanga around death and Māori wellbeing.

Hongoeka is a beautiful Ngāati Toa settlement near Plimmerton.  We will enjoy the manaaki of the local people while nestled in next to the ocean.  (Tangihanga will naturally take precedence and a back up event site will be available on the day).

Your day will be facilitated by Vanessa Eldridge of Mary Potter Hospice and Denis Grennell of Te Aratiatia Consulting.
