Mini-Masterclass: Loss and Grief

You are here

Grief begins with a diagnosis that can change your future life plans. It is from this point, that a new normal begins to emerge and when that diagnosis includes a palliative approach, it can be a process that includes the whole family/whānau/aiga – acknowledging that everyone is affected by a major health issue.

This workshop outlines the theories of grief that have evolved over time and the holistic approach taken by hospice and palliative care.  We explore the emotional, psychological, physical and spiritual realms of grief and offer tools and techniques for health professionals and caregivers to navigate these changes.

The workshop is designed for those working with palliative patients, those who have a life limiting condition and their family/whānau/aiga.

Learning Outcomes:

  • The palliative holistic approach to grief and loss.
  • Communicating across cultures in times of loss
  • Tools and techniques for navigating difficult conversations.
  • Caring for oneself while supporting others in grief.
  • Mindfulness, meditation and healing presence.
