Mini-Masterclass: Respiratory Issues at End of Life

This workshop is led by Dr Brian Ensor, Director Palliative Care, in collaboration with Jo Graham, physiotherapist at Mary Potter Hospice.

We will use a case based learning model to look at the management of respiratory issues in palliative care. The session will include assessment and management of breathlessness, and link in with Te Ara Whakapiri end of life guidelines  

The day has been designed for health professionals working with palliative patients and family/whānau/aiga.

Learning Outcomes:

  • To manage breathlessness at end of life.
  • To understand dyspnoea and effective use of pharmacological intervention.
  • To learn techniques to ease fatigue and maximise airflow.
  • To manage stress through non-pharmacological means through breathing techniques, music, massage, acupuncture and other therapies.
