Mini-Masterclass: Respiratory Issues at End of Life

This workshop is led by our Physicians in collaboration with Jo Graham, physiotherapist at Mary Potter Hospice.

We will use a case based learning model to look at the management of common symptoms in palliative care.   The session will include assessment and management of dyspnea, COPD and effective symptom management of common respiratory issues at end of life.

An end of life pathway will be discussed as a tool for guiding care in the last days of life.

The day has been designed for health professionals working with palliative patients and family/whānau/aiga.

Learning Outcomes:

 

  • To manage breathlessness at end of life.
  • To understand dyspnoea and effective use of pharmacological intervention.
  • To learn techniques to ease fatigue and maximise airflow.
  • To manage stress through non-pharmacological means through breathing techniques, music, massage, acupuncture and other therapies.
