Newtown vacancies

Volunteer Property Project Support – provide support to our maintenance manager at Mary Potter Hospice ensuring interior and exterior of the buildings are well maintained. 3 hours per week at our Newtown base. Applications close 5pm Friday 9th February 2018download an application form here.

Hospitality Volunteers for our Inpatient Unit meal services – help to deliver meals and refreshments to our patients staying in the Inpatient Unit in Newtown, Wellington. We have a range of shifts available:

  • Tuesday
    • Morning Tea 10.15am – 11.30am (weekly)
    • Dinner 5.20pm – 7.20pm (monthly) – 2 vacancies available
  • Friday
  • Saturday
    • Morning Tea10.15am – 11.30am (fortnightly)
    • Lunch 11.50am – 1.50pm (fortnightly)
    • Dinner 5.20pm – 7.20pm (monthly)
    • Supper 6.45pm – 8.15pm (monthly)

Administration/IT Support – Newtown based, hours occasional as required – ideal for an existing volunteer who is happy to volunteer extra hours when needed. Help support our biography team with general administration and digital technology support, including:

  • sorting and maintaining digital recorders and transcribers
  • purchasing equipment as required
  • coaching new volunteer biographers in the use of digital recorders and transcribers.

You will have the following skills:

  • excellent organisational and communication skills
  • demonstrates a detailed and diligent approach
  • have a good understanding of digital recorders, transcribers and USB sticks
  • competent in Microsoft office suite i.e. spreadsheets
  • able to work independently and use initiative
  • high level of integrity.

Community Companion volunteers – we currently require six volunteers to support people in the Wellington area receiving palliative care in their own home, so they can remain in the community as long as possible.

What you’ll do in the role:

  • Keeping the person company while their carer goes offsite for up to 2 hours
  • Being present even if the person does not want to talk or if they want to sleep
  • Performing the tasks while maintaining professional boundaries and not becoming a friend
  • Supporting the person to do activity that is important to them, such as reading a book or newspaper, playing cards, writing letters, walking the person’s dog with them.

You will have the following skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Non-judgemental and open minded
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries
  • Sensitivity, tolerance and empathy
  • Self-care and stress management skills
  • Works within Mary Potter Hospice’s policies and procedures
  • Comfortable working with a diverse range of people.

Commitment: Up to 4 hours per week (across all clients)

Porirua and Retail vacancies

Advert – Volunteer Vacancy Truck Hand Retail – play a vital role in our Retail Logistics Team as a Truck Hand. Minimum 7.5 hours per week between Monday – Saturday 8.30am – 4pm, working out of our Porirua Retail Distribution Centre. View the Volunteer Truck Hand Retail job description.

Kapiti vacancies
