Friday 18 – Saturday 19 May, 2018
Mary Potter Hospice was gifted to the people of Wellington, Porirua and Kapiti over 30 years ago by the Little Company of Mary. We’re here to provide compassionate and quality hospice care for the terminally ill and their families in our community, when and where you need us – free of charge.
Mary Potter Hospice has an 12 bed Inpatient Unit in Newtown, and three community bases in Kapiti, Porirua and Wellington, which provide Day Hospice services. On any given day, we have over 270 patients in our service, and we cared for almost 900 patients in the past year.
Most of our patients choose to stay in their own home so our community teams of doctors, nurses, counsellors and therapists provide holistic care to them and their families and whānau, caring for the whole person and their support network.
Each year, demand for our services increase as our community ages, and terminal illnesses become more complex. We need your support to be able to continue providing our free palliative services for generations to come.
This year we need to fundraise more than $6 million to keep our services free. We depend on our community as only half of the funding we need comes from government. We’ll be out on the streets of Wellington, Porirua and Kapiti on Friday 18 May and Saturday 19 May. If you can spare some time to collect for us at a location close to you we would be so grateful.
