Our Hospice Shops are going plastic bag free from Monday 1 July. Please remember to bring your own bag with you when you shop with us. Thank you!
The ban on single-use plastic shopping bags takes effect on Monday 1 July 2019.
When you shop with us from Monday 1 July 2019, we are no longer able to place your purchased items in a single-use plastic bag. You can either take your purchased items with you without a bag or bring in your own bag.
Why can’t I get a free bag anymore?
The Government has approved a ban on the sale and distribution of single-use plastic shopping bags. It comes into force on 1 July 2019. Single-use plastic shopping bags are polluting our environment and the Government is phasing out single-use plastic shopping bags because of their negative environmental impact.
Why can’t we supply you with biodegradable or compostable bags instead? The Government has also banned biodegradable and compostable bags that are under 70 microns in thickness. This is because they can be as harmful to nature as non-biodegradable plastics.
Can I reuse old single-use plastic bags that I have at home?
Yes. The ban only applies to new and unused b
ags. You are welcome to reuse old bags from home, including bringing them into the store to put your shopping in.
Will the ban really make a difference?
By shopping pre-loved at out Hospice Shops you are already making a positive impact to our environment. The plastic bag ban will stop millions of single-use plastic shopping bags from entering the environment each year. This will benefit our waterways, ocean and wildlife.
Thanks for your understanding.
