Volunteer Vacancy – Day Unit Volunteer (Kāpiti)

Role Responsibilities
You will play a valuable part in the Day Hospice service. You will work under the guidance of the Day Hospice Coordinator and your tasks will include:

  • Helping patients feel welcome
  • Assisting with various activities, including creative activities and games
  • Morning tea and lunch set up and clearing
  • Assisting patients with comfort needs, mobilising etc, as required
  • Assisting with preparation and tidying up of physical space
  • From time-to-time there may be general duties such as preparation or sorting of materials for activities

Person Requirements

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport, and help people feel at ease
  • Sense of fun and interest in creative activities and crafts
  • Sensitive to the needs of others and able to seek help as needed
  • Dependable, diligent and a high level of integrity
  • Works well within a team and able to use initiative
  • Remains calm in tense or pressured situations
  • Must be physically fit and healthy to safely manage the physical demands of the position

Approximately 9.15 am to 2.15 pm fortnightly on Tuesday
