Role responsibilities
This role is to support Day Hospice Staff and establish a therapeutic environment in the Mary Potter Hospice Day Unit by assisting with practical tasks, meeting the comfort needs of patients. Working with patients individually or in groups as guided by the Day Unit Co-ordinator.

Your tasks will include:

  • Helping patients feel welcome
  • Assisting with various activities, including arts, crafts and games
  • Organising events including food service, set-up and clean-up
  • Assisting patients with comfort needs, mobilising etc, as required
  • From time-to-time there may be general duties such as preparation or sorting of materials for activities

Person requirements

  • Have a warm personality and able to have an immediate connection with people
  • Sensitive to the needs of others and able to seek help as needed
  • Be aware how much support to give without impacting on patient’s independence
  • Interest in creative activities to assist patients
  • Dependable, diligent and a high level of integrity
  • Works well within a team and able to use initiative
  • Remains calm in tense or pressured situations

Commitment
10am–2pm weekly, fortnightly or monthly
