Pride pledge
What does committing to the Pride Pledge mean for Mary Potter Hospice?
At Mary Potter Hospice, our commitment to the Pride Pledge reflects our belief that equity is everyone’s responsibility. This pledge aligns with the principles of Tika, Pono, Aroha and our own values of Mana, Aroha, Rangatiratanga, Manaakitanga, and Kaitiakitanga. We actively promote diversity, equity, and inclusion across all levels of the organization, including staff recruitment, governance, training, employment conditions, and workplace events.
Guided by the principle of “Nothing About Us, Without Us,” we strive for true inclusivity in everything we do. Our dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion is reinforced by our commitment to the Pride Pledge, ensuring that every member of our team recognizes the importance of creating a safe and inclusive workplace.
The Director of Health Equity plays a vital role in coordinating our efforts with the Pride Pledge team, helping to drive our focus on rainbow inclusion. We stay informed and educated on rainbow issues and language, proudly affirming our status as both allies and advocates within the Mary Potter Hospice community.
Upcoming Pride Pledge activities
Over the next 12 months, we will be rolling out a series of Pride Pledge initiatives, including workshops, regular online sessions for all staff, and both online and in-person networking meetings. These gatherings will offer opportunities for staff to learn, and engage with each other, focusing on key topics at each session. Additionally, Pride Pledge resources will be available on both our internal and external websites.
Why is this important?
In Aotearoa, there is an urgent need to improve the health and well-being of trans and non-binary people. At Mary Potter Hospice, we aim to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for our gender-diverse population. We believe that fostering diversity and inclusion not only benefits our Rainbow staff and patients but also strengthens our community as a whole. Ensuring that everyone’s gender identity is respected and supported is essential to creating a safe, compassionate, and understanding space for all.
