When you or someone you love needs hospice care, feeling understood and respected matters.

At Mary Potter Hospice, we are committed to providing care that recognises culture, values, and what is most important to you and your whānau. To help us do this, we are guided by two advisory groups who support our work to improve health equity for Māori and Pacific peoples.

These groups help ensure that the care you receive is culturally safe, responsive, and shaped by the voices of the communities we serve.

Te Pou Tautoko

Te Pou Tautoko supports Mary Potter Hospice to ensure Māori perspectives, values, and tikanga are woven through the way we work.

Through their guidance, you can expect that Māori voices are heard at all levels of the Hospice, from service planning through to day-to-day practice.

Te Pou Tautoko provides advice on the implementation of the Māori Service Plan and supports staff to work in ways that respect kaupapa Māori and meet the needs of Māori patients and their whānau. The group has also contributed to education, research, and initiatives that influence palliative care nationally, as well as supporting the Hospice during formal ceremonies and occasions.

The Pacific Advisory Group

The Pacific Advisory Group supports Mary Potter Hospice to ensure Pacific patients and families can access hospice care that feels safe, respectful, and aligned with their cultural values.

Through their guidance, the Hospice continues to build understanding of the diverse needs, beliefs, and traditions of Pacific peoples. The group helps strengthen relationships with Pacific communities, reduce barriers to care, and ensure services are shaped in ways that support dignity, connection, and family.
