A Night Under The Stars Raises $50,000 for Kapiti Renovation Project

August 29th, 2025

On Wednesday 27 August, 110 loyal supporters gathered at Southwards for A Night Under The Stars Gala Dinner – an unforgettable evening of entertainment, connection, and generosity, all in support of Mary Potter Hospice Kapiti’s much-needed community base renovation.

Guests enjoyed a stunning backdrop of vintage cars, a delicious plated meal from Relish Café and Catering, and the energy of our superb MC, Nick Tansley, who kept spirits high throughout the night. The evening’s special guest, Stew Darling from Unstoppable Force, captivated the room with extraordinary stories from his time as a Lieutenant Colonel in the British Secret Service. His inspiring reflections on leadership and resilience had the audience enthralled.

The auctions were a real highlight. Using an online bidding platform, guests competed for everything from romantic getaways and beautiful artworks to food hampers and even a Warriors trip package generously donated by Mills-Albert. The room buzzed with excitement as bids rolled in, raising over $50,000 for the renovation project.

This vital funding will help us bring our Kapiti community base up to standard, ensuring it’s fit for purpose for the patients and families who rely on our care.

A heartfelt thank you goes to MC Nick Tansley, guest speaker Stew Darling and his wife Liz, auctioneer Doug Palmer and the Harcourts team, musicians Charli Ravenwood and Clare Christian, Amber and Megan from Wham Bam, Levi from Southwards, Spy Valley Wines, Double Vision Brewery, Foxton Fizz, Hospice staff Dawn MacPherson and Nina King, photographer Joanna Piatek, and to every person and organisation who donated auction items.

And finally, to you – our incredible supporters. Your generosity, energy, and kindness make events like this possible. Together, we are building a stronger future for hospice care in Kapiti.

Couldn’t make it on the night but would still like to help? You can support the Kapiti renovation project and be part of making this vital upgrade possible.
