A Festival Moment Made Brighter Because of You

December 5th, 2025

Celebrating the joy and creativity your support brings to our community

If you have read the Summer/Raumati 2025 Newsletter story behind how our Day Programme created this year’s handmade rainbow tree, you will know how much teamwork and care went into it. This update shares what happened when the tree was displayed at the Wellington Airport Charity Christmas Tree Festival.

At the Festival’s Gala Opening and Awards Night, our tree received First Prize, which included a $10,000 advertising package. It was a proud moment for our Day Programme team and for everyone who supports the Hospice.

The Tree Festival benefits Cystic Fibrosis NZ, and it was heartening to stand alongside other charities and supporters who care deeply for their communities. The atmosphere reflected this sense of shared purpose. Local artist Lynne Sandri judged the entries and announced the winners. When our tree was named, our team’s reaction said everything.

A community effort you helped make possible

This project began as an idea from long-time volunteer and Mana Lions member Murray Gillon, supported by the Mana Lions. It grew into a meaningful creative project led by Susi Maxwell, whose guidance and encouragement helped patients and volunteers craft every decoration.

We are deeply grateful to everyone in the Day Programme who contributed their time, creativity and enthusiasm. If you have supported our Hospice Shops, donated materials or contributed to the Day Programme in any way, you played a part in making this tree possible.

When the group visited the airport to view the display, there was genuine excitement. If you had joined them, you would have seen the pride on every face as they stood beside the tree they helped create.

Look for our tree when you travel

If you are travelling through Wellington Airport this season, we hope you will look out for our rainbow tree. If it brings you a moment of colour or comfort, we would be grateful for your vote.

Your support helps us continue offering opportunities for creativity, connection and joy. If you would like to contribute, you can donate at marypotter.org.nz/donate or visit our Hospice Shops for festive treasures that support our care.
