Volunteers come from all walks of life, but they share one thing in common: a desire to make a difference.
Meet Amanda Burke
Amanda has supported Mary Potter Hospice’s Street Appeal for several years, first as a collector and more recently as an Area Coordinator.
Amanda says one of the things she enjoys most about volunteering is the people she meets along the way.
“I LOVE the other amazing volunteers that join in to help with collection day. They are an awesome bunch of people, are super helpful, great company and so happy to help out.”
She also treasures the small moments of connection that happen throughout the day and the opportunity to contribute to an organisation that supports so many people in our community.
For Amanda, volunteering is also about setting an example for her family and showing how a few hours can make a meaningful difference.
“Do it! There are many ways to help Mary Potter Hospice continue providing this valuable service. If you can spare a couple of hours, this is for you.”
Thank you, Amanda, for your generosity, enthusiasm and support. We are so grateful to have you as part of our volunteer whānau.
Thank you, Colin
For more than 20 years, Colin has been generously giving his time to support Mary Potter Hospice and the people we care for.
For Colin, volunteering is about more than giving back. It’s about connection, community and the personal fulfilment that comes from knowing you’ve made a difference, no matter how small.
“The best gift we can give is our time, and when people come together to support one another, that gift becomes something truly special.”
Thank you, Colin, for your two decades of dedication, generosity and service. We are incredibly grateful for all that you have contributed to Mary Potter Hospice and our community.
Meet Justin Goffe
Justin is one of our dedicated Retail Volunteers at the Mary Potter Hospice Shop in Miramar.
Justin spends his volunteer hours repairing electrical items, helping prepare donations for sale, and lending a hand wherever it’s needed.
“My paid job pays the bills, but this volunteering job is fulfilling and brings me a lot of joy.”
Every repaired item, every donation sold, and every hour given helps support the vital work of Mary Potter Hospice.
“Every little bit matters. Every contribution helps Hospice do what they do best and support the community.”
Thank you, Justin, for sharing your skills, your time, and your generosity with Mary Potter Hospice.
Meet Charlie
Not all of our volunteers walk on two legs.
Charlie is one of our much-loved Pet Therapy Volunteers. Together with his human, Barbara, Charlie brings comfort, companionship and plenty of smiles to patients, whānau and staff at our Inpatient Unit.
Pet therapy can help reduce stress, ease feelings of loneliness and create moments of joy when they’re needed most.
Thank you, Charlie and Barbara, for sharing your time, kindness and unconditional love with our Hospice community. We think you’re paws-itively amazing.
Thank you to our volunteers
Thank you to every volunteer who gives their time, skills, compassion and energy to Mary Potter Hospice.
Whether you’re welcoming visitors at reception, serving meals, supporting patients and whānau, tending the gardens, helping in our Hospice shops, collecting donations during Street Appeal, supporting fundraising events, sharing a therapy dog visit, assisting behind the scenes, or lending a hand wherever it’s needed — you help make compassionate hospice care possible.
Our volunteers create moments of comfort, connection and care that are felt across our Hospice community every day.
We couldn’t do it without you.
