Mary Potter Hospice is raising a glass to community, collaboration, and compassion with the launch of Hops for Hospice – a special edition brew created in partnership with Sprig + Fern Brewing Co and Nelson Tasman Hospice.
Available from 22 April and throughout May, Hops for Hospice is a vibrant fresh hop hazy pale ale brewed using freshly harvested Nelson Sauvin and Nectaron hops, showcasing the very best of the Tasman region’s hop harvest. Bursting with bright tropical fruit, passionfruit, and citrus notes, and balanced by subtle hints of white wine and gooseberry, the beer delivers a soft, juicy body and smooth finish. It’s an easy-drinking seasonal release with a powerful purpose.
“This partnership with Sprig + Fern reflects something we see every day in our community: people coming together to support one another when it matters most,” says Tony Paine, Chief Executive of Mary Potter Hospice.
“Sharing a drink is a familiar way people gather, connect, and remember those they love. Through this collaboration, that simple act also becomes a way to support others at a very important time in their lives.
“At Mary Potter Hospice, we rely on the generosity of our community to ensure we can continue to provide free specialist palliative care for patients and their whānau, care that supports people not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well.
“I would like to thank the Sprig + Fern team, their suppliers, and their taverns for coming together in this way, and for the contribution they are making alongside Nelson Tasman Hospice through the Hands Up for Hospice campaign.”
“Everyone has a connection to hospice care in some way, whether it’s family, friends, or the wider community. It’s something that touches all of us,” says Tracy Banner, Owner and Master Brewer of Sprig + Fern Brewing Co.
“Every beer we produce is crafted with care and attention to quality, and this one carries a particularly special feeling as it helps raise funds for such a meaningful cause. We’re proud to support our local community and brewing this beer is our way of giving back to a service that supports so many local families.”
This initiative is the result of a generous collaboration between Sprig + Fern Brewing Co, Sprig + Fern Taverns, Little Sprigs, Gladfield Malt, NZ Hops, Label & Litho and VISY. They’ve all come together with a shared goal: supporting the vital work of hospice care in our community.
To support fundraising efforts, $1 from every pint of Hops for Hospice sold in Sprig + Fern Taverns across Wellington and Tawa will be donated to Mary Potter Hospice.
Mary Potter Hospice provides compassionate, specialist palliative care and support to around 850 patients and their families across the region each year. The service remains free of charge, but this care comes at a significant and growing cost. More than $19,200 must be raised from the community each day to keep services running.
At 5.2% ABV, Hops for Hospice is a celebration of flavour, generosity, and community spirit, where every sip helps ensure hospice care remains available to all who need it.
