Silver Ferns Visit Newtown

October 15th, 2018

It’s not every day that some of New Zealand’s top athletes visit our Newtown In-Patient Unit. Thank you to the Silver Ferns for visiting!

Earlier this month the Silver Ferns popped into our In-Patient Unit thanks to House of Travel. Accompanied by a gorgeous morning tea, players Maia, Gina and Samantha plus the Ferns’ manager Dee mingled with patients, family and staff. There were plenty of photo opportunities, and the patients were excited to be involved, especially given the Ferns’ victory a few days prior.

Later, the Ferns went head-to-head in a bed making race. Hospice Health Care Assistant Josie showed the Ferns how a hospital bed is made (definitely harder than it looks!). It was then all go in the Hospice’s chapel, where we saw pillows flying and sheets being tucked in at all angles – lots of laughs were had by all. In the end, Gina and Dee came out on top in a very tight race.
