Visiting the Inpatient Unit

Family, whānau, friends and pets are very welcome to visit our Inpatient Unit

Your family, whānau, friends and pets are very welcome to visit our Inpatient Unit.

We know how important it is to be surrounded by the people and comforts you love.

To keep everyone safe, especially those with weakened immunity, we ask that anyone with cold or flu symptoms does not enter the Inpatient Unit at this time. If you’re feeling unwell or unsure, please phone us first. We’re here 24 hours a day to guide you.

Visiting hours are 8am to 8pm, unless another arrangement has been made with the team.

Our visiting approach takes into account patient wellbeing and any current public health guidance, so from time to time there may be additional considerations. If you have questions, please call us.

Facilities at the Inpatient Unit

We’ve created spaces where you can pause, gather, and feel at home.

Tea and coffee making facilities, along with limited food storage and heating, are available in the Tarata Room (family room) kitchenette. The Wharekai (café) also offers meals and snacks for visitors. Patient meals are provided free of charge.

For younger visitors, there are toys, DVDs, and games available in the Tarata Room. We ask that children are supervised at all times, to ensure the safety, privacy, and comfort of everyone in our care.

The Āio (chapel) is open to all. It’s a quiet place for reflection, contemplation, or prayer, whatever your beliefs or background. You are welcome to use this space whenever you need.

Parking and transport

We know getting here can sometimes feel like one more thing to manage.

Parking at the Inpatient Unit is limited, especially between 8.30am and 3.30pm. If possible, we recommend using public transport, or taking a taxi or Uber.

The closest bus stop is at Wellington Hospital. For bus routes and timetables, you can phone Metlink on 0800 801 700 or use their journey planner. There is also a paid car park at Wellington Hospital, about a five-minute walk from the Hospice.
